Overview

At a pivotal moment with Ship Stick, I spearheaded the halted native iOS app project getting back on track, aligning stakeholder vision with a user-focused strategy. Understanding its importance in our digital roadmap, through a strategic pivot of comprehensive user research evaluation and a phased execution, I lead the full product release cycles in this critical environment. This successful realignment led to substantial increases in overall engagement and retention.

Business Objectives

Challenges & Objectives

When I joined Ship Sticks, the company was grappling with the challenges of an outsourced app development process that had not met its expectations. Recognizing the need for a strategic pivot, I implemented a phased approach to regain control of the app's development. This transition was executed in three distinct phases to allow for an early functional APP gathering feedback while working in parallel to release remaining phases. This structured approach not only salvaged the app but turned it into a triumphant aspect of Ship Sticks’ service offerings, reflecting the company's commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.

Process & Execution

UI/UX

Leading design in user-centric principles, focusing on delivering a product that was as simple to navigate as it was pleasing to the eye. A clear, logical progression through the app's features — from exploring service options, to clever upsell tactics, to finalizing transactions — was a priority, ensuring that users could navigate the app without unnecessary complexity. Intuitive gestures and familiar elements, such as strategically placed calls-to-action (CTAs) and swipe-to-edit capabilities, were integrated to align with users' existing mobile interaction patterns. User feedback loops were integral, ensuring the design evolved to meet and exceed user expectations continually.

Cross-functional team

Agile project management techniques were employed, establishing sprints, stand-ups, and retrospectives to maintain momentum and address issues promptly. Clear communication channels were set up between teams, with regular updates and checkpoints ensuring that all departments were aligned with the project's goals. Collaboration tools and shared documentation platforms enabled real-time updates and transparency across the teams.

Stakeholder meetings

The meetings were crucial for aligning the app's development with strategic business objectives. These meetings served as a platform to discuss and refine project goals, resource allocation, and risk management strategies. Stakeholder feedback was pivotal in prioritizing features and setting realistic timelines. The lessons learned included the importance of clear communication, setting measurable goals, and the need for continuous stakeholder engagement to ensure the project remained aligned with the broader business strategy.

The delivery of the Ship Sticks app, both on schedule and within the allocated budget, was the result of a crucial pivot into phases and a strategically orchestrated cross-team collaboration.
